Radha Shukla has worked for over 20 years with an NGO named Shramik Bharti Sanstha. In 2009, she began her work in community radio with Waqt Ki Awaaz. The community radio has listener-ship of over 300,000 spread across Kanpur and Kanpur Dehat areas.
Radha Shukla started the community radio station by identifying 10 villages near Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. She hunted for volunteers and developed her very first program on issues faced by senior citizens. She spoke to us about her efforts to create awareness by making programs on issues like domestic violence. In her program she invites victims of domestic violence to share their experience with the listeners. She told us that mobilizing volunteers and resources for her station has been a major challenge.
